Choose the frame before adding overlays
Switching from a wide frame to a tall one changes what the viewer can see. Choose the intended canvas early, then decide how the source should fit inside it.
A vertical result is not simply a landscape result with its sides removed. It needs a composition that still communicates the important action at a smaller viewing size.
Choose between fitting and filling
Filling the frame can give the subject more presence, but it removes surrounding information. Fitting the full image preserves the source and leaves room for a background or supporting content.
Use the option that protects the meaning. A tutorial with controls spread across a wide interface may need a different treatment from a centered speaker against a simple background.
Inspect the full motion
A subject that begins in the center may move outside a narrow crop later. Scrub through the clip and watch the most active section. Check hands, demonstrations and objects the speaker points to.
If the required content cannot fit comfortably in one crop, consider keeping more of the source visible instead of pushing the enlargement further.
Place captions after the composition settles
Move titles and captions after the picture is positioned. Keep them readable without covering the face or the result of an action. Test the longest caption, not only a short title.
Leave comfortable space around the text. The interface of the service where you share the video may cover part of the picture, so review that destination’s presentation before final delivery.
Judge the file at its real size
Export a short vertical test and watch it on a small screen. Check whether text in the original recording remains legible after the crop. Raising output resolution cannot recover detail that the source did not contain.
Compare the vertical edit with the original for meaning as well as appearance. If the key event is harder to understand, change the framing before polishing the colors or effects.
